FEDERAL DISASTER DECLARATION INFORMATION
On August 19, 2010, President Obama issued a major disaster declaration for the State of Illinois, triggering the release of Federal funds to help communities recover from the Severe Storms and Flooding which occurred July 22 through August 7, 2010. Individual Assistance will be available through the Federal Individuals and Households Program (IHP). IHP provides help of direct services to those who have necessary expenses and serious needs if they are unable to meet the needs through other means. Up to $29,900 is available in financial help, although some forms of IHP assistance have limits. Flood insurance may be required to secure assistance. There are many different assistance categories through IHP such as reimbursements for temporary housing, repairs not covered by insurance, home replacements, and semi-permanent or permanent housing construction. Details of the Assistance to Individuals and Households including conditions and limitations of IHP assistance can be found below. All residents who suffered damages during the storm events are encouraged to apply for the federal assistance funding. There are three methods to apply for the grants: Call the special toll free application number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TYY 1-800-462-7585 Register online at www.disasterassistance.gov Visit the Disaster Recovery Center in Westchester (see below press release for more information)
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT FEMA WILL BE HANDLING ALL CLAIMS! We are hopeful that the process to apply will be as simple as possible. It is advised that you have all pertinent information and documentation available with you when you begin the process.
