Forestry, Trees & Landscaping
The Public Works Department directs programs to enhance the health and diversity of trees located on public grounds. To learn more about the Village’s forestry programs or others, view the Arboricultural Specifications Manual (PDF) or the most recent Forestry Program Newsletter (PDF).
Village Tree Pruning Map & Updates
Trees in the pruning zone were evaluated during late summer into early fall. The evaluation updated current condition, size (DBH), location adjustments, and established whether the tree was in need of pruning or not. If the tree was in good condition it will not be pruned as this can cause more harm than good. If the tree needs to be pruned it will be done either by our in-house crew (Village of Glen Ellyn Forestry Department) or our contractor. Please visit the tree pruning dashboard and click on a tree to determine who will be responsible for pruning each specific tree. Progress will be updated on a weekly basis.
Private Tree Removal
A permit is not required to remove a tree from private property. Please call Public Works for more information.
Village Code requires that weeds be mowed to less than 8 inches. View the complete weed ordinance (PDF) for more information.
For more information regarding mulching techniques, please read about proper mulching techniques (From International Society of Arboriculture) (PDF).
