The Village Board makes certain decisions that maintain and enhance the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the Village of Glen Ellyn. These decisions include, but are not limited to, matters of Village finances including the approval of the annual Village Budget; approval of contracts; responsiveness to citizen concerns; establishment of, and variations to, building, zoning, subdivision and traffic codes; and establishment of license fees and other charges.
The Architectural Review Commission reviews and advises the Village Board on applications for the exterior appearance of non-residential and multi-family residential buildings and on sign variation requests.
The Capital Improvements Commission is responsible for the study and development of plans for capital improvements necessary to provide municipal infrastructure and services to the citizens of Glen Ellyn.
The Environmental Commission is responsible for the collection of environmental and technical information relative to the quality of life in Glen Ellyn, alerting the Village Board to laws relating to the environment, and making recommendations to the Village Board on the adoption of policies, programs and goals that would improve or sustain the environment of the Village.
The Historic Preservation Commission establishes policies regarding the preservation, protection, enhancement, rehabilitation, reconstruction, maintenance, and use of the Village’s historic structures, sites, and landscapes.
The Plan Commission is responsible for reviewing and advising the Village Board on requests for approval of special use permits, subdivisions, planned unit developments, stormwater variations, zoning code text amendments or zoning map amendments.
The Board of Police and Fire Commissioners conducts examinations for eligibility and handles matters of reprimand, suspensions or dismissal within the Police Department.
The Recreation Commission advises the Village Board and Recreation Department staff on matters pertaining to recreation and on matters pertaining to the planning, operation and maintenance of the Village owned recreation facilities.
The Zoning Board of Appeals reviews and advises the Village Board on applications for approval of zoning variations for single-family and two-family dwellings.
