The regional Illinois Prairie Path runs parallel to the Metra/Union Pacific rail line. In 1975, the Village of Glen Ellyn adopted the council-manager form of government.  A President and six Trustees are elected at large to serve four year staggered terms and are responsible for formulating policy, approving the budget and levying taxes.  A professional Village Manager is responsible for hiring staff and implementing Village Board policies.

Over 31 well-equipped parks are designed to satisfy individual and family recreation desires.  Glen Ellyn also houses an over 7,200 yard 18-hole championship golf course at the newly renovated Village Links.  Residents also have access to the Illinois Prairie Path used for running, cycling, hiking that stretches for over 50 miles through DuPage and surrounding counties.  Additionally, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage Countyoffers more than 25,000 acres in 60 forest preserve sites
