Strategic Planning Goals - Monthly Reports

Every two years, Glen Ellyn elected officials and management team members participate in a strategic planning process.  This undertaking provides a forum for local leaders to brainstorm, and identify goals to address the future needs of the Village.  This process results in an ambitious list of initiatives that are further refined to reflect the top priorities of the Village President and Trustees.

In January of 2010, the Village Board formally adopted the results of the most recent strategic planning process.  Twenty goals were identified as the top priorities for Village officials to pursue. Below you will find the monthly reports providing status updates on each of the top twenty strategic planning goals.

Planning is an on-going process that requires adjustment, updates, flexibility and input.  If you have an opinion, comment or a suggestion to share, we are interested.  Please contact Village Manager Steve Jones to share your thoughts.

Monthly Reports

Beginning for the month of January 2010, the Management Team will be compiling a new monthly report packet for the Village Board and public.  This packet will include the typical monthly department reports, in addition to any other memos or informational documents that come on a monthly basis.  Please find below these monthly report packets.

Comprehensive Annual Financial Report

State law requires the Village to prepare a complete set of audited financial statements following the close of each fiscal year in the form of a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).  For the past twenty years, the Village has received recognition for its CAFR in the form of a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association. This program requires preparation of financial statements in accordance with detailed program criteria which help ensure a financial report that is well organized and easily readable as well as ensuring a spirit of complete disclosure and comparability with other local government financial statements.

Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company ISO Rating

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company (GEVFC) was notified by the Insurance Service Office (ISO) that its Public Protection Classification improved from 4 to 3 on June 1, 2009. ISO evaluates and rates fire departments and assigns grades on a scale of 1-10, with 1 representing the highest ISO rating.

Nationwide, out of 47,639 fire protection departments and districts, only 5 percent have achieved a rating of 3 or better. The rating of 3 received by the GEVFC is comparable to, or better than, most surrounding DuPage communities, including those with a fully paid staff. The GEVFC is made up of volunteer frefghters who must undergo rigorous and ongoing training.

The Village is only slightly more than 3 percentage points from attaining a rating of 2.  If/when the Village attains a rating of 2, it will place us in the top 1 percent of all fire departments nationwide.  There are only 3 Class 1 departments and approximately a dozen Class 2 departments in the State of Illinois (1,250 statewide departments).
