Village and Library Board Candidates

The Village of Glen Ellyn has up for election:  Three (3) Village Trustee offices for full four (4) year terms, Four (4) Library Trustee offices for full four (4) year terms.

The first day to circulate petitions was September 20, 2022.

Candidate Filing

Filing for the Consolidated General Election begins on Monday, December 12, 2022, and concludes Monday, December 19, 2022.  For the purpose of accepting candidate petitions of certificates of nomination, the Village Clerk’s office will be open during regular business hours from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, through the filing period, except the last day of filing, December 19, when the Village Clerk’s office will remain open until 5:00 pm.

To file for candidacy, individuals must submit the following documents to the Village Clerk’s Office at 535 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn, no later than Monday, December 19 at 5:00 pm:

The Village Clerk’s office will not distribute candidate packets.  Please visit the DuPage County Election Division website, Candidate Page for prospective candidate packet information.   To obtain a copy of the State Board of Elections Candidate Guide, 2023 Election Official’s Handbook and the Election Campaign and Finance Calendar, visit the Illinois State Board of Election website.  

Individuals interested in running for the office of Village Trustee or Library Trustee are advised to seek legal counsel to determine individual requirements for running for elected office.

Voting information can be obtained from the DuPage County Clerk’s Election Commission.

Determining Ballot Order

Candidate names will be placed on the ballot in the order in which the qualified petitions have been filed.   However, for simultaneous filings at 8:00 am on the first day, as well as those petitions received in the first mail delivery of the first day, a lottery will be held to determine which filer is named on the ballot first.  For any petitions filed between 4 and 5 pm on the last day, a lottery will be held to determine which filed is named on the ballot last.

The simultaneous filing lottery will be held (for both first and final filers) on December 21, 2022 at 10 am at Glen Ellyn Civic Center, Room 301.  

Objections

Nomination papers shall be deemed as valid unless objections are filed in writing (an original and two copies) within five business days after the last day for filing nomination papers.  The objector’s petitions are filed with the same office in which the nominating petitions are filed.  Objections may be filed during regular business hours of 8 am – 4:30 pm.  Please note that Village offices are closed on Monday, December 26.

The deadline for filing objections at the Civic Center Clerk office within the Administrative offices is Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 4:30 pm.
