[ARCHIVED] Adult-Use Recreational Cannabis FAQ's

FAQ's Recreational Cannabis

At the January 27 Village Board meeting, the Board voted to amend the Glen Ellyn municipal code pertaining to the possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia to align with the new state law that went into effect January 1, 2020. The new state law makes it legal, subject to important limitations, for adults age 21 and older to possess cannabis for recreational use in Illinois.

In 2019, the Village Board opted to impose a moratorium ordinance prohibiting recreational cannabis businesses in Glen Ellyn, until October 26, 2020. The Board is expected to revisit this discussion in the fall of 2020 to determine if the code should be amended to prohibit or allow cannabis sales within Village limits.

For more information about the Cannabis Regulation and Taxation Act (CRTA) that went into effect on January 1, 2020 and its impact on Glen Ellyn, visit the Village’s website to view frequently asked questions concerning the new law.
