Glen Ellyn Residents,
As we continue to navigate through the challenges and impacts on our community, I want to assure you we are doing everything we can to prepare and plan for COVID-19. The Village is diligently implementing the mandates announced by the United States President and the Illinois Governor.
While this is a fluid and ever-changing event, I can assure you our team has access to incredible experts and leaders. Never before have I seen so much leadership come together, along with staff from every organization going above and beyond their expected job responsibilities. I am quickly becoming very familiar with those that run the Governor’s office, the Illinois Department of Public Health and the DuPage County Health Department. All of these offices and departments stand ready to not only hold numerous conference calls to keep our municipalities updated, but have also made themselves available to all questions on an individual basis. Your local elected leaders at the Federal and State levels are also reaching out to help in any way.
As we ask residents to stay home as much as possible, I also encourage Glen Ellyn residents to find ways to support our local businesses, while keeping social distancing in practice. I know that this is a crucial time for many of our businesses. While some businesses are temporarily closing, many are offering limited hours or curb side pick-ups. The Chamber of Commerce, the Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn and Village staff are collaboratively working together to support our many local businesses. Residents can show additional support by considering buying a gift card from your favorite local business for a later shopping day. The recently launched Glen Ellyn Dine at Home program offers options of curbside pick-up and delivery at many of our local restaurants. For a list of participating restaurants, please visit the Chamber of Commerce website.
Another way you can help in the coming weeks and months ahead is to volunteer. There will be a number of opportunities and much need, if you are able. Giving DuPage has developed a volunteer portal with a listing of local needs.
The Village will continue to send updates and information to our residents and businesses. Please use our website, Facebook, Twitter or radio station at AM 1620, to stay in touch with the latest Village news.
In closing, thank you to all the people and businesses of Glen Ellyn. I have seen tremendous support for one another and it is truly inspiring.
Stay safe and healthy, practice social distancing and reach out if you are in need.
Diane McGinley
Village President
