At the June 22 Board Meeting, the Glen Ellyn Village Board approved a 24 month contract (October 2020 - October 2022) with Eligo Energy as the Village’s new energy supplier through the Electric Aggregation Program.

The new provider offers a green energy option along with an annual civic contribution to the Village. Eligo Energy will make a contribution of $55,886 to the Village with the chosen 100% green energy in the new contract. Residents are guaranteed to pay the ComEd rate.

All Glen Ellyn residents and small commercial accounts will receive a letter in the mail containing further details about the program within the next couple of months. The letter will further explain the details on how to continue participation in the program, how to opt-out or how to opt-in if previously contracted with another suppler.

The Electric Aggregation Program was passed by a referendum in 2012, which authorizes the Village to operate an opt-out electric aggregation program for residents and small business ratepayers. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has nationally recognized Glen Ellyn as a “Green Power Partner” community. As a “Green Power” community, the Village is collectively using more than 84 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet approximately 40 percent of the community’s total electricity use. Currently, the U.S. EPA ranks the Village 30th in the country for the amount of green energy used.
