In August 2021, the U.S. Census Bureau released the first local level results from the 2020 Census. Data received indicates that the Village of Glen Ellyn total population went from 27,450 in 2010 to 28,846 in 2020, an increase of 5% over the past decade.
Glen Ellyn increased our Census self-response rate from 79.9% in 2010 to 83.6% in 2020. Households that responded to the 2020 census had the opportunity to do so online, by mail, or by phone.
Beginning in 2019, Glen Ellyn partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau to support the 2020 Census. The Village, along with the Glen Ellyn Public Library and the League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn formed a Complete Count Committee. This committee was formed to educate residents about the census and ensure Glen Ellyn was accurately represented in the count.
The count affects the allocation of community funding for public resources, including roads and education, plus how we plan for the future, and our voice in government. Results will determine our community’s political representation and share of federal funding throughout the next decade.
The Census Bureau is expected to release more detailed data from the 2020 census by the end of September 2021.
