In an effort to better understand current housing conditions within the Village, Glen Ellyn is conducting a Housing Study and Assessment. Through this process, the Village hopes to learn about housing-related challenges and the unmet needs of its residents.
The Village is working with SB Friedman Development Advisors, LLC, and The Lakota Group to conduct the comprehensive assessment. The Village also established a steering committee to provide direction and input as part of the work. This Committee represents a diversity of backgrounds and experience and consist of eight community members and two Village trustees. The steering committee will serve as technical and strategic advisors during the study.
A Community Survey will also play a critical role in the study, and all residents are encouraged to utilize this tool to provide feedback and input during the study.

As part of the assessment, the project team will be visiting a variety of neighborhoods within Glen Ellyn to experience the housing market, evaluate existing conditions and assess how the local market is responding to evolving trends in real estate. Additionally, the team will work with local realtors, developers, and affordable housing organizations and evaluate specialty housing needs for those who experience housing barriers including special needs, the homeless, seniors, and those with disabilities.
Socioeconomic demographics will also inform the study, as key information such as population, household count, age, and income levels are all evaluated to provide a full economic analysis.
The goal of the study will be to determine housing affordability and livability and to identivy any housing gaps within the Village to thereby develop a model that can be used for future developments.
