Village Adopts Comprehensive Plan

The Village Board adopted the 2023 Comprehensive Plan after a reconvened public hearing at its August 28, 2023 meeting.

Glen Ellyn began the process of updating its 2001 Comprehensive Plan in July 2018. The Village conducted a robust public engagement process beginning in August 2018 and continuing through June 2021.

Since that time, significant efforts have been made to maintain and enhance Glen Ellyn as a thriving, desirable place to live. As the community is predominantly built out, the Village has focused on growth through redevelopment, reinvestment, and placemaking in its established districts. The updated Comprehensive Plan presents recommendations to strengthen Glen Ellyn’s existing residential neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and the Downtown while looking at opportunities for new development. The Comprehensive Plan serves as a guide for planning and land use decisions and policy formation over the next 10 to 20 years.

The Glen Ellyn Comprehensive Plan is the result of an inclusive planning process that engaged a variety of stakeholders in crafting a vision for the Village’s future. The process identified and addressed key concerns within the Village while setting a precedent for planning in the community. Community outreach and efforts that facilitated discussion with a diverse range of community stakeholders were foundational to the creation of the Glen Ellyn Comprehensive Plan and included in-person events and online tools to engage and gather input from residents, the business community, property owners, developers, service providers, officials, and other groups with a vested interest in the Village’s future.

Together, this feedback helped guide the direction of the Plan and ensured that recommendations and policies remain responsive to the needs of the community.
